Padar island is one of the most anticipated destinations when you visit Komodo National Park. It’s praised for its breathtaking view of picturesque landscapes overlooking the lush green mountains of unusual shapes. However, recent updates informed that the Komodo National Park Office has temporarily closed the Southern Padar Island destination from 5 – 8 July 2021. The temporary closing is intended to accommodate the proper implementation of health protocols in the area. The island has only one trekking route with a limited number of officers to supervise the visitors.
The decision is directly affecting liveaboard operators with many of them having to cancel or reschedule their trips. However, although Padar Island is closed to visitors, other tourist destinations such as Rinca Island, Komodo Island or Loh Liang, other beach tourist spots such as Pink Beach or Long Beach on Padar Island as well as dive spots and snorkeling are still open for tourists.
If you plan to visit Komodo National Park, please be aware of the current restriction and make sure you meet the requirement to travel safely. Options like private trips are available for extra safety and convenience. Most importantly, don’t forget to always comply with the applicable health protocols while in the Komodo National Park Area.
